Step 1

Home Energy Assessment

Complete a home energy assessment through your municipal utility to determine whether there is opportunity for weatherization in your home.

Step 2

Find a Participating Contractor

Work with a participating contractor to identify and complete specific weatherization improvements.

Step 3

Install QA Form

Your participating contractor submits a virtual quality assurance form to Abode. We review the submission and approve it remotely if possible, or complete an in-home inspection and work with the contractor to resolve any work issues if needed.

Step 4

Submit Rebate

Submit the weatherization rebate application through your MLP.

Step 5

Rebate Processed

The rebate is processed and customers enjoy a more comfortable, efficient home.

Middleborough rebates

MGED provides no-cost home energy assessments and rebates for eligible weatherization improvements.

Rebate process

To be eligible for a rebate through MGED, the project must adhere to the below process steps and quality assurance review.
STEP 1: HOME ENERGY ASSESSMENT

A no-cost home energy assessment must be completed within the last three years. Schedule a home energy assessment with an auditor.

STEP 2: PARTICIPATING CONTRACTOR SCOPING VISIT

You are required to work with a participating contractor to determine exactly what weatherization improvements can be made to the home. Participating contractors have agreed to provide standardized weatherization recommendations and pricing consistent with statewide programs. Participating contractors also adhere to the required quality assurance and rebate processes.

STEP 3: PRE-APPROVAL APPLICATION

Once your contractor has visited your home and conducted their scoping visit, they will submit a weatherization pre-approval. Abode will approve the proposed measures and communicate this approval to your contractor.

STEP 4: QUALITY ASSURANCE REVIEW

During and after installation, the HPC completes a post-installation quality assurance (QA) form for the weatherization installation. This is a digital form submitted by the HPC directly to Abode, including photos taken during and after weatherization install. Abode will review the install remotely. If needed, Abode will schedule an in-home weatherization inspection.

STEP 5: REBATE APPLICATION

The online rebate application must be completed by the homeowner or contractor following install. The form will ask for an invoice for the job, which can be obtained by the contractor.

Rebate rules & requirements

  • Weatherization opportunity must be determined by a recent MGED/Energy New England energy audit before installation.
  • No added room or space (renovation or new construction) that adds to the home’s heating load will be eligible unless the new load is neutralized by increased insulation/air sealing in the other areas. This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and should be approved by Abode & MGED before weatherization work commences.
  • Work must be started and completed from January 1st to December 31st, for this rebate cycle. Work completed in the following year will be eligible for that year’s rebate offering, if available.
  • Work must be done by a participating contractor. See below for a list of participating contractors for the MGED Weatherization Program.

In order to qualify for the weatherization rebate from MGED, installed weatherization improvements must pass a quality assurance inspection provided by Abode Energy Management. In order to pass inspection, the home must not have any health or safety issues that are created by the installed weatherization improvements or that are pre-existing in the home and exacerbated by the installed weatherization improvements. These health and safety issues include but are not limited to:

  • Issues with a heating system or other combustion appliance that will result in the accumulation of harmful combustion byproducts in the home
  • Insulation in contact with electrical and/or heat sources that pose a fire hazard
  • Inadequate ventilation in the home that poses a moisture accumulation and air quality risk.

These health and safety factors are consistent with building code and energy efficiency program requirements across Massachusetts. Installing weatherization measures in accordance with these requirements is the responsibility of the weatherization contractor or a subcontractor, if applicable. If health and safety issues exist in the home following the weatherization install, they will need to be resolved before a weatherization rebate can be provided by MGED.

Customers choose from one of the program’s participating contractors included on the weatherization contractor list maintained by Abode.
