Norwood rebates
NMLD is offering rebates on qualifying air source heat pump installations for customers who do not heat with natural gas. Natural gas customers are eligible for Mass Saveโs residential air source heat pump program.
The NMLD air source heat pump rebate program is divided into two categories โ whole-home and partial-home. Complete eligibility requirements can be found on theย ENE NMLD webpage.ย Optional pre-approvals are highly recommended, especially for whole-home projects.
The qualifying equipment and rebate application process between NMLDโs program and the Mass Save program are different, so please be sure to familiarize yourself with eligibility requirements before installing any equipment.
Rebate requirements
In order to be eligible for a rebate through NMLD, the project must adhere to Abodeโs review process.
There are five main requirements to be aware of:
HOME ENERGY ASSESSMENT
A home energy assessment must be completed within three years prior to heat pump install.
WEATHERIZATION (Only Required for Whole-Home Heat Pump Rebate)
Homes must be fully weatherized in order to qualify for the Whole-Home Heat Pump Rebate. The required home energy assessment (see Step 1 above) will determine whether there are weatherization improvements to be made. If there are improvements to be made, reference the Participating Contractor List or choose an insulation contractor of your own. Abode will inspect the weatherization improvements once completed. If you believe your home is already fully weatherized, please contact Abode for verification. Homes built in the year 2000 or later automatically qualify as fully weatherized. If there are weatherization improvements to be made but you do not wish to complete them, you can still qualify for the Partial-Home Rebate.
PRE-APPROVAL FORM (OPTIONAL)
Optionally, the Pre-Approval form can be completed by the contractor prior to installation. Once you have decided on a contractor and heat pump proposal to move forward with, if you would like to confirm eligibility for rebates prior to install, your installer can submit the Optional Pre-Approval Form. This form includes equipment information for the proposed heat pump system(s). Abode will verify whether the equipment meets the efficiency requirements to qualify for the MLP’s rebate.
If you have multiple proposals and have not decided yet on a single proposal, rather than submitting multiple pre-approvals, we ask that you instead submit a “Quote Review” to Abode; see above for consultation offerings to submit quotes.
INSTALL QA FORM
The Install QA Form must be completed after install by the contractor. In addition to requiring information on the home and the installed system(s), the form also requires a paid invoice and photos of the installed equipment.
REBATE APPLICATION
The online rebate application must be completed by the homeowner or contractor following install. The form will ask for utility account information and will also require a paid invoice and the installed systemโs AHRI certificate(s), all of which can be obtained from the contractor.
As of 2/1/2025*
The HVAC industry is transitioning away from R410A refrigerants and to A2L refrigerants, like R-454B and R-32, to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
Beginning January 1, 2026, the EPA ruling prohibits the installation of new HVAC systems with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) >700. Theย Mass Save Heat Pump Qualified Product Listย will be removing any R410 refrigerants to align with the new standard. Similarly, all systems selected using theย NEEP ccASHP Qualified Product Listย must be selected using the โAll A2Lโ or other A2L refrigerant selection (e.g., R-454B, R-32) to align with EPA’s new transition rule.ย ย Models with R410A refrigerant will no longer be eligible for rebates when installed on or after January 1, 2026.ย Invoices for installations using R410A refrigerants will need to list an install date of December 31, 2025 or before to qualify for a rebate.

Whole-Home Requirements
Completion of weatherization recommendations and required weatherization quality assurance approval (Homes built 2000 or later are considered fully weatherized and do not require an Abode inspection)
Per ACCA Manual J Design Conditions, systems must be properly sized to meet 90-120% of the total heating load at the outdoor design temperature throughout 100% of the conditioned space. Contractors can optionally submit a manual J heat load calculation via pre-approval but must submit it in the required post-install QA form.ย
